OIC SG stresses swifter implementation pace on IDB projects

ISLAMABAD - Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, OIC Secretary General,
has urged on IDB Governors to re-double efforts towards swifter discharge of their national/regional ownership of rapid implementation of development
projects in OIC Member States. He has conveyed this urgency in his passionate message delivered by Amb. Hameed A. Opeloyeru, Assistant Secretary
General OIC, at the 37th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of IDB, in Khartoum/Sudan on Wednesday, says an OIC email from Khartoum to Kashmir

SG Ihsanoglu identified four key areas of fast action towards addressing socio-economic transformation in OIC Member States,
correct framing of national/regional priorities, elaboration of regional/cross-border projects, strengthening institutional/funding mechanisms, and
creation of regional institutional alliances for joint study/implementation of projects.
The Board of Governors is deliberating on a host of
important issues, ranging from the implementation of the partnership strategies with the OIC Member States, including projects under Jeddah
Declaration Initiative, Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development and Special Programme for the Development of Africa, with the aim of ensuring
financing for development projects in OIC Member States as well as assistance to a number of Muslim communities in non-OIC countries.
OIC
General Secretariat delegation participated in a number of special and parallel events, including seminars on: “Financing and Business
Opportunities provided by the IDB Group”; “Application of Biosaline - Agriculture Technologies and Marginal Quality Water in Agriculture
in OIC Member States”; “Food Security and Agribusiness: Unleashing Private Investment”; “Sustainable Villages Program and the
Millennium Villages Project: Achieving the Millennium Development Goals in Sub-Saharan Africa”; as well as the 7th IDB Global Forum on:
“Role of Islamic Finance in Job Creation”; and Meeting on the Special Programme for the Development of Africa (SPDA), among others, the
message adds.
The main objective of these events was to raise awareness among local and international business communities on products and
services offered by the IDB Group, as well as showcasing the Bank’s initiatives and programmes in various domains, including its business
operations in OIC Member States.
On this occasion, the IDB Group entities and funds such as Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment
and Export Credit (ICIEC), Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD), International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation, and
Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) will also convene their governing bodies meetings.
