Pakistan confirms US-Taliban talks in Qatar
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesman, Abdul Basit, Saturday said that Pakistan, through
diplomatic sources, had learned that America and Taliban were holding talks in Qatar, Geo News reported.
Talking to British media, he said that
Pakistan would be let in on it in detail after the complete resumption of diplomatic channels with the US.
Replying to a query, he said
Pakistan’s role would most probably be of a mediator in the Qatar US-Taliban peace talks, adding but would be “limited” with Afghan
leadership/nation setting the level of Islamabad's involvement.
He said that Pakistan aimed no interference in the internal affairs of
Afghanistan and was trying to take all the representatives in confidence so that the war-torn country may emerge as 'truly peaceful' in the wake of
NATO pullout.
To another question, he said Pakistan has always avoided blame game with Afghanistan publicly and the Foreign Minister Hina
Rabbani Khar took up the issue during her talks in Kabul and if issues arose between the two countries, they would be resolved amicably on table like
two brothers.
