Valley skier selected for world championship

Gulmarg: 28 years old Arif Khan from North Kashmir’s Tangmarg area has been selected for World ski championship to be held in Colorado USA in feb 2015.

Arif Khan is an Alpine Skier in Indian Ski Team. For his outstanding performance in ski sports he is recognized by Federation International Skiing (FIS)

While talking to Arif after his name figured for World Ski championship he said, “This is my second time that I am representing India in the world skiing championship, the last time I represented India in world skiing championship was in Austria in 2013\”.

Arif is the sole Kashmiri Alpine skier who has represented India for various international skiing events in 26 different countries including USA, New Zealand etc since 2005.

\”Being mostly as a self-funded athlete this has been my dream to represent Kashmir globally as a skiing destination since my inception into the world of skiing”.I want to bring the name for Kashmir on ski globe which every alpine skier in the world is aiming for his place,he added.

Arif is currently for training in Gulmarg, he is also aspiring to represent India in winter Olympic games which will be held in south Korea in 2018.

The Indian team include 9 members, 3 male athletes Arif Khan, Hira Lal and Himanshu Thakur Female athletes Anchal Thakur and Varsha Thakur Coaches, Roop Chand Nagi and Ladhur Thakur officials Roshan Lal Thakur secretary General WGFI and President WGFI Colonel Joe Dillon.
