Pulwama, April 8 (GNS): A complete spontaneous shutdown amid clashes was observed in twin districts of Shopian and Pulwama in south Kashmir against the killings of three local militants including a commander.

The shutdown was observed against the killing of three Hizbul Mujahideen militants – Bilal Ahmad, Naseer Pandit and Waseem Malla – in separate gunfights that occurred in Pulwama and Shopian villages. The trio was part of the Burhan group of Hizb led by young militant commander Burhan Muzzafar Wani.

All the shops, business establishments and other commercial units were closed in the two districts while the transport also remained off the roads. During the shutdown, clashes between youths and government forces raged in Newa and Haal in Pulwama and in Shopian Town.

Sources said several youths were injured in pellet gunfire at Newa this evening while SHO Rajpora was also injured. The police officer was hit by a stone in his leg. Reports said three youths who sustained pellet injuries at Newa were shifted to Srinagar for treatment. (GNS)
