Social and charitable work of the Catholic Church worldwide
Charity is a visible sign of our condition as Christians. Jesus Christ made that mutual love was the distinguishing mark of Christians. This sign of love of neighbor, which is expressed in words, gestures, works of service and charity, sharing time and money is an expression of faith in God and in many cases, leads to faith in God.
“The Church must be a place of mercy freely given, where
everyone can feel welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged to live the good life of the Gospel”, says Pope Francis in the nr. 114th of the apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium.
The 70 Spanish dioceses are structured in 23 071 parishes. In addition 57,986 religious and tens of thousands of laymen contribute with their dedication and effort to the presence of the Church in the society, in the service of all.
There are more than 8,000 service centers of the Church in which more than 3.5 million people are received and served. 13,000 Spaniards devote worldwide their lives to celebrate the love of God as missionaries.
“The decisive point of the social question is that goods created by God for everyone should in fact reach everyone in accordance with justice and with the help of charity”, says the Catechism of the Catholic Church (nr. 2459).
“Riches fulfil their function of service to man when they are destined to produce benefits for others and for society”, says in the nr. 239 the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church.
