RIYADH: Pakistan desires to live in peace with India and all of its neighbors, said Pakistan Ambassador to the Kingdom Omar Khan Ali Sherzai on Friday.
Sherzai made the comments speaking to a large gathering of Pakistanis on an occasion marking Kashmir Solidarity Day. The gathering was held at the Pakistan Embassy’s community hall in Riyadh.
The envoy stressed that the Kashmir issue still remains a major stumbling block in normalization of relations between Pakistan’s two neighbors, adding that the dream of bringing peace in the region would not be realized unless the issue of Kashmir is resolved according to the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He also read out messages from Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, and concluded by reiterating that Pakistan is committed to lending its moral, diplomatic and political support to the just cause of Kashmir.
Feb. 5 is an official holiday in Pakistan and the occasion is used by Pakistanis, both at home and abroad, to hold rallies, meetings, seminars and symposia to express their solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The program was conducted by Tariq Choudhry and presided over by Sherzai. The chief guest was Choudhry Mahmoodul Hassan, a leader from Azad Kashmir, who is in the Kingdom on a private visit.
