:. After ‘thrashing’ by Police, MLA vows to continue with protests

Srinagar: The sitting legislator from Langate in frontier Kupwara district Thursday vowed to continue with the protest till action was initiated against the police officer who alleged beat him in Police station Handwara yesterday.

“I will continue with the protest till action is taken against the SHO of the Handwara police station,” Er Rashid told Press Bureau of India.

After continuing with the protest against the police for entire night, the MLA called off the sit-in this morning in wake of the inclement weather.

The legislator, S A Rasheed said that he was severely beaten by Handwara Police late last evening. “I had gone to police station Handwara to lodge a complaint against unprovoked thrashing of civilian (tipper driver Abdul Aziz) by police, but instead of listening me, a dozen of police men pounced on me and beat me to pulp.”

He later staged a sit-in outside the Police Station Handwara and was joined by scores of people before he called it off this morning following downpour.

Meanwhile, police is learnt to have filed a case FIR 149/2010 against him under section 332, 427,147 and 427 Rpc.  (PBI)
