Militants kill police official at Awantipora
Srinagar, October 2 (GNS): Militants today late evening fired upon a police official in Padgampora village of Awantipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir after which he died of critical bullet wounds.
Sources told news agency GNS that militants fired upon Head Constable Ashiq Hussain who is Munshi of police station Awantipora when he was on way to his home near Padgampora.
The sources said that Ashiq was critically injured in the firing and succumbed shortly after being shot. Government forces have arrived on the attack spot and launched manhunt to nab the assailants, the sources added. (GNS)
Soldier injured in landmine blast in Keran sector
Srinagar, Oct 2 (GNS): An army man was injured in a landmine blast in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday evening.
“Sepoy G Jagthi Sawaran 16 Madaras along with his colleagues was patrolling the mountain ridges near Khawaja Behak Post in Keran sector today evening when he stepped over a landmine laid by army to prevent infiltration, exploded with a bang”, a police officer told news agency Global News Service (GNS).
The soldier received injuries in his left leg in the explosion. He was immediately shifted to Military Hospital Drugmulla for.(GNS)
4 militants killed, army officer among 4 soldiers injured in Tanghdar
Srinagar, Oct 2 (GNS): Four militants were killed and as many soldiers, one of them an officer, were injured along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday morning.
A police officer told news agency Global News Service (GNS) that a joint team of army’s 20 RR and 6 Gadwal, manning the Balthania post along the LoC in Tanghdar sector, noticed some suspicious movement on wee hours on Monday.
“The group of the infiltrators entered few meters towards this part and on noticing the movement, the army opened fire which was retaliated, triggering off an encounter in which four militant have been killed so far. The operation was going on, the police officer said.
He said that an army officer (lieutenant), Rahul Sheikh, was among four soldiers injured in the gunfight. While officer and another soldier have been admitted in military hospital Drugmulla, two remaining injured soldiers were airlifted and admitted to 92-base hospital at Badaminagh here for specialized treatment.
The police officer said that three militant bodies have been recovered along with 4 AK rifles and 3 haver sacks.
Army’s Srinagar based defence ministry spokesman Col Rakesh Kalia told GNS that three militants have been killed so far.
“So far three militants have been killed while search operation is still going on. Weapons were also recovered,” he said. (GNS)
Two policemen injured as militants lobbed hand grenade on naka party in Baramulla
Baramulla, Oct 2 (GNS): Two policemen sustained splinter injuries in a grenade attack at Juhama area of Baramulla in north Kashmir on Monday evening.
A police officer told GNS that a joint team of Policeand Army has established a Baja at Juhama, Baramulla for routine area domination.
“At about 1850 hours one motorcycle approached from opposite side and while seeing the Naka Party made an about turn”, the officer said.
While being challenged to stop one among the two militants riding the motor cycle hurled a grenade towards the Naka Party. Two policemen received minor injuries, the officer said.
“Both the injured have been hospitalized”.
Soon after the incident, the whole area has been cordoned off with the help of additional reinforcement, the officer said.
Meanwhile, police has registered a case and started further investigation in this regard, the officer added. (GNS)
