PPP-AJK to support MC’s Usman Attique
ISLAMABAD: In a major reconciliation policy implementation measure the Pakistan People’s Party-AJK and Muslim Conference (MC) have jointly announced Sardar Usman Attique as their joint candidate in the September 22, 2011, election to the capital seat of AJK Assembly (Const. 26). With this announcement by the PPP-AJK President and Prime Minister Abdul Majeed Chaudhry in a press conference here Wednesday evening the PPP candidates Kh Farooq Ahmed, Syed Anjum Nisar Gilani, and Kh Maqbul War advocate, contestants for the same seat now stand withdrawn in favor of Usman Attique. Ex-Premier & MC chief Sardar Attique Ahmed, Kh Farooq and Usman Attique were also present in the press conference.
AJK PM said that this measure was part of his party’s already announced policy of political reconciliation in AJK on the Pakistan pattern and extended his invitation to the Pakistan Muslim League/N to join power portal. ‘Our doors for them (PML/N) to join power are always open’, he asserted.
On the occasion Sardar Attique Ahmed said: ‘I through PM AJK Abdul Majeed Chaudhry extend my thanks to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and MNA Faryal Talpur for PPP’s support to my son Sardar Usman in the coming bye-election as a joint candidate of PPP and MC”.
Premier Majeed Chaudhry on the occasion remarked that in the past AJK being base camp of Kashmir struggle was turned into an auction house (Neelaam-Ghar). Its true image would be restored. Medical colleges – one in Muzaffarabad and other in Mirpur are being set up. From Lower Topa to Muzaffarabad a double-lane expressway is to be constructed, he added.
Earlier the PPP-AJK workers had launched a strong protest against the decision of their party to accept Sardar Usman as joint electoral candidate. However they finally bowed down to the decision of their highest party bosses.
It is generally thought that Kh Farooq Ahmed, a twice-minister in the past, would be got elected as member of Kashmir Council in future where he is likely to be appointed as Advisor to Prime Minister of Pakistan/chairman Kashmir Council. Kashmir Council advisors enjoy minister-of-state status.
