PM chairs AJK council meeting, says Kashmir solution holds key to peace in South Asia

ISLAMABAD (INP): The 48th Session of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Council was held at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat Monday with Prime Minister of Pakistan Raja Pervez Ashraf in chair.
The Prime Minister in his opening remarks said that Pakistan and India stand at the cross-roads of the history. “The Kashmiri people are looking up to the two countries to fulfil their obligations by allowing them to exercise their right to determine their future,” he said.
Raja Pervez Ashraf reiterated Pakistan’s principled stand on Jammu and Kashmir and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the just cause of Kashmir and their right to self-determination. He reassured Kashmiri brothers and sisters that government and people of Pakistan would continue to extend whole-hearted moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiris in their just struggle. He pledged that they could count on Pakistan in their legitimate struggle for the right of self-determination.
The Prime Minister said that Kashmiri people were engaged in a legitimate struggle for the implementation of the United Nation’s Security Council resolutions. The people of Indian occupied Kashmir continue to render great sacrifices for the Kashmir cause. Pakistan has called for an end to the human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir, he added.
He said that Pakistan has demonstrated seriousness of purpose and sincerity in resuming the dialogue process with India. Pakistan feels that it should be uninterrupted as it is important to sustain this process to make it result oriented, he added.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan has conveyed to India that Pakistan seeks friendly, cooperative and good neighborly relations with it. Pakistan had emphasized on the need to invest more on building trust and infusing greater political skill in resolving all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
The Prime Minister said that Kashmir dispute holds the key to durable peace in the South Asian region. Pakistan feels that a sustainable resolution of the problem will only be possible if the aspirations of the Kashmiris are taken into account, he added.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan had demonstrated its commitment to engage constructively with India to resolve this longstanding dispute, he emphasized.
The Session passed unanimously a proposal for constitution of Public Accounts Committee and approved the nomination of Mr. Muhammad Mehboob as its first chairman. Besides, the names of Mr. Muhammad Nadeem and Mr. Babar Zulqarnain were approved as its members.
The Council also considered and passed unanimously “The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council Removal from Service (Special Powers) (Repeal) Act 2013”.
Earlier, the Council offered Fateha for the martyrs who have laid-down their lives in the heroic struggle for freedom in Indian-held Kashmir.
Those who attended the meeting included Sardar Ghulam Sadiq Khan, Acting President AJK, Choudhry Abdul Majeed Prime Minister AJK, Mian Manzoor Ahmad Watto Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Mr. Farooq H. Naik Minister for Law and Justice, Mrs. Tanzeela Aamir Cheema MNA, Nawab Muhammad Yousuf Talpur MNA and other senior officials.
