PDP condemns attack on Mohammad Yasir Reshi
Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the assault on the party’s candidate for Sonawari assembly constituency, Mohammad Yasir Reshi by dreaded Ikhawanis in Asham village of the area.
In a statement the party Chief Spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar said Mohammad Yasir Reshi was attacked by Ikhwanis when he was on campaign trail for the forthcoming assembly elections in Asham village.
He said Ikhwanis have been deliberately fielded by the ruling party politicians in the area to harass the common people and the political opponents with an eye on the coming assembly elections.
Terming attacks part of repression which the National Conference has let loose in the valley over the last six years; Akhtar said Yasir is being targeted for his growing popularity in the area. He said the local MLA, who is also minister in the outgoing Omar Abdullah government, is feeling unnerved by his imminent defeat in the assembly polls and has let loose a reign of terror against the people and political opponents.
Demanding thorough probe into the incident, Akhtar said the attack was a cowardly act and reflects the desperation that has taken over the NC cadres under its failing leadership.
