Terming attacks part of repression which the National Conference has let loose in the valley over the last six years; Akhtar said Yasir is being targeted for his growing popularity in the area. He said the local MLA, who is also minister in the outgoing Omar Abdullah government, is feeling unnerved by his imminent defeat in the assembly polls and has let loose a reign of terror against the people and political opponents.

Demanding thorough probe into the incident, Akhtar said the attack was a cowardly act and reflects the desperation that has taken over the NC cadres under its failing leadership.
