OIC SG accepts invite to visit Russia
ISLAMABAD – In his first visit to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) headquaeters in Jeddah Saturday, the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation reiterated the mutual interest in promoting cooperation between Russia and the OIC. Russia is an OIC observer member.
OIC Secretary General, Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani, welcomed Mr. Lavrov, and his delegation. During the meeting they discussed regional and international issues including developments in the Middle East, Syria, Iraq, Central African Republic, Myanmar and Crimea.
Both sides agreed to continue consultations and dialogue within the Cooperation Framework Agreement between Russia and the OIC. Mr. Madani accepted an invitation by the Foreign Minister to visit Russia, and Muslim communities in the region including in Tataristan, Chechnya, Dagestan and Crimea.
Lavrov stated that the two sides also agreed to cooperate in the United Nations on human rights issues and other important issues to ensure that all civilizations, cultures and traditions are respected and there is no one sided approach to issues, be it human rights, be it conflict resolution, but rather an approach based on consensus, compromise building and respect to the interests of all.
