Srinagar: Demanding the release of Aafia Siddiqui, a former Pakistani neuro scientist serving a prison term in the United States, the members of Dukhtaran-e-Millat held a protest demonstration on Friday here in Srinagar against her alleged sexual harassment.

The protester gathered at the Mushtaq Press Enclave against the lifetime imprisonment and ‘sexual assualt’ of Aafia Siddiqui and was led by President Dukhtaran-e-Millat Aasiya Andrabi.

The protestors were carrying the anti-US placards and raised slogans against the United States Government. The angry protestors also burnt the US flags at the Residency Road here.

The protesters asked the Clerics of Pakistan and the Muslim community throughout the world to pressurize the American administration to end up the ‘atrocities’ against the Aafia Siddiqui.

While talking to media persons, Aasiya Andrabi, said, “The clerics of Pakistan and Kashmir have no right to lead the Muslims as they have failed to raise the voice against the US for imprisoning Aafia Siddiqui. We demand her release and also demand that Muslim clerics should galvanize mass opinion for the just cause of Aafia, who is a sufferer of US hegemony.”

“Aafia who has spent two years of her imprisonment in the American jail and have been subjected to severe tortures by the American administration. What was her fault?” Aasiya asked.

She claimed that Aafia was subjected to torture only because being a Muslim nuclear scientist. “All those charges were fabricated against her and have no evidence.”

“Aafia lost her newborn baby Maryam in the jail and has been sexually assaulted by the American brutal soldiers,” Aasiya alleged.

Aafia Siddiqui is an American-educated Pakistani cognitive neuro-scientist who was convicted of assault with intent to murder her U.S. interrogators in Afghanistan.

The charges carried a maximum sentence of life in prison; in September 2010, she was sentenced by a United States district court to 86 years in prison. (AIP News)
