Avalanche threat in Sonamarg

Srinagar, Feb 17 (KNS): Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Showkat Ahmed Mir has cautioned that there is possibility of an avalanche at Thajiwas, near Sonamarg, due to which the flow of water in Nalla Sindh can possibility get affected resulting in accumulation of water.

This accumulation can suddenly get discharged into the Sindh Nalla, resulting in possibility of flooding in some low lying areas along the Nalla.The District Administration Ganderbal has requested people living along Nalla Sindh in Kangan and Ganderbal areas, to be extremely cautious and restrict their activities near the Nalla, in anticipation of sudden fast gush of water.The Administration has asked Police, Paramilitary forces, as well as Volunteers to assist administration in case of any eventuality. People have however, been cautioned not to unnecessarily panic but to take precautionary measures.
