So-called non-lethal weapons also kill: Hurriyat (G)
Srinagar: Reacting to the reports of CRPF and police being armed with pump-action guns to
control crowds in Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat Conference (G) Tuesday quoted ‘scientists and doctors’ on the lethality of the “so
called non-lethal weapons.” “According to scientists and doctors, even if the pump-action gun does not kill immediately, the victim of
this so-called non lethal weapons soon develops several dangerous, deadly diseases. The gas discharged from the pump-action gun is so lethal that it
can lead to eyesight loss. Similarly, the laser gun and another of these ‘non-lethal’ weapons which clots blood reveal their lethal
hazards slowly,” a spokesman of the amalgam said. The spokesman quoting ‘expert doctors’ said use of non-lethal weapons on
protesters was akin to ‘slow poisoning’ , and the “use of these weapons will leave behind a population of disabled in the
future.” “This is a very serious matter and we appeal international rights groups to take notice of this trend and use their influence
in this regard. In any case, use of lethal or non-lethal weapons against peaceful protesters is totally unjustified . Allowing peaceful protests is
considered to be among the basic principles of any democracy, but India’s democratic credentials have been badly exposed in Kashmir,” the
spokesman said. “The barbarous force used against peaceful Kashmiris is an ample proof that India considers Kashmir nothing more than a
colony, and that country can go to any extent to control its occupation here,” he said. The spokesman said policy makers in New Delhi should
understand that enforcing “silence of the graveyard on gunpoint will not yield any results , and the current situation could take an explosive
turn anytime.” Meanwhile, the amalgam has reacted strongly to reports of Zahid Farooq case being shifted to Jammu. “Reliable sources
have told the Hurriyat that the government is keen on getting the case shifted to Jammu to drag on the case and shield the culprits from law.”
