SRINAGAR: A 19-year-old youth injured in Indian Army firing in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday has succumbed at SKIMS Soura, taking the death toll in the incident to three.
Rayees Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohd Yousuf Ganie (19) of Narpora village of the south Kashmir district, was hit in the head after army opened fire on protesters in Ganowpora village on Saturday.
Two youth – Javed Ahmad Bhat of Balpora and Suhail Javed Lone of Rawalpora – were killed in the firing.
Reports said that Ganie succumbed to injuries in the wee hours today after battling for life for nearly five days at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura.
The body of the slain reached at his native village around 8 am, said the reports.
Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident while the police has filed a murder case against the army. However, Indian Army has claimed that they opened fire in “self-defence” after a “mob tried to lynch an officer” during the protests.
Meanwhile, youth clashed with government forces at Murran Chowk and Rajpora Chowk in Pulwama district of south Kashmir after a youth injured in army firing in Shopian died on Wednesday.

Earlier, two youth – Javed Ahmad Bhat of Balpora and Suhail Javed Lone of Gawanpora – were killed in the firingon Saturday.
An eyewitness said that as soon as the news about the death of third youth spread in the area, a group of youth took to the streets at various spots of the main town and pelted the forces with stones. The forces responded by firing tear gas.
An official said that forces have been deployed on various locations across the town to maintain law and order. (PTK)
Shopian shuts against civilian killing
SRINAGAR: A complete shutdown was observed on the seventh consecutive day today in Shopian district against the civilian killings.
All shops, business establishments, government and private offices remained closed in the district while public and private transport were off the roads.
Javaid Ahmad Bhat s/o Abdul Rashid Bhat of Balpora Shopian and Suhail Javaid Lone s/o Javaid Ahmad Lone of Rawalpora were killed on Saturday afternoon when Indian Army opened fire in Ganawpora.
However, on Wednesday another youth, Rayees Ahmed Ganaie of Narpora Shopian succumbed to his injuries in the wee hours today after battling for life for nearly five days at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of SKIMS Soura.
With the death of Rayees Ganaie, the death toll has reached to three. An official said that contingents of forces were deployed at sensitive locations in the district to thwart any “element of violence”.
Mobile Internet service remained suspended in Pulwama and Shopian districts on the seventh consecutive day. (PTK)
Geelani addresses gathering at Shopian over telephone, pays tribute to slain youth
SRINAGAR, JAN 31 (PTK): Syed Ali Geelani while justifying the people’s resentment against occupational forces, said that repression and oppression have not made any difference. People’s sentiments boil over when there are killings and they come out on the streets, saying India can never kill the sentiment that has always prevailed among the people.
In his telephonic address paying tributes to slain youth ,Raies Ahmad Mir in Shopian, Syed Ali Geelani said that those who lay their lives for a sacred cause, are alive with their Lord and receive sustenance from Him.’’
Syed Ali Geelani while addressing to mourners, said that Indian occupational forces have left their brutal footprints. We continue to bleed for the last 7 decades, saying that hollow and tall claims of restraint by Indian forces were aimed at befooling the common people and repeated horrific incidents testified our claim that they are trigger happy and want to kill every soul in state.
Indian forces are on routine basis are repeating the Jallianwala Bagh like massacres here, said Geelani and urged International community to set up an International Independent Tribunal to probe theses massacre so that the conspirators and perpetrators of this heinous crime should be unmasked and punished under International Law.
Lashing at pro-Indian political parties, Geelani said that PDP, NC, Congress and BJP, all are hand in glow with these killers and stressed people to boycott all these organizations and asked to stay away from these and safeguard sacrifices presented by our youth. Now it is people’s turn, particularly youth, to unite and foil conspiracies of India and its henchmen against freedom movement, added he. (PTK)
Blood-thirsty guilty forces glorifying immunity under AFSPA: Jama’at-e-Islami
SRINAGAR: While expressing anguish over the death of 19-year-old youth Rayees Ahmad Ganaie of Narpora, who was injured in Shopian firing recently, Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir Wednesday said that blood-thirsty guilty Indian forces are glorifying their immunity under the draconian law of AFSPA.
Jama’at-e-Islami said that declaring that it cannot be abrogated under these circumstances which means that unless the plan of genocide of hapless Kashmiris is accomplished, the continuation of such laws is their compulsion! How long this suppression proves fruitful for these oppressors, the time will decide?.
Jama’at-e-Islami said that the international community is not playing its expected and due role and has become a silent spectator of these brutal human rights violations.
In a statement issued to PTK, Jamaat expresses its sorrow upon this attitude and vehemently condemns the atrocious role of the Indian establishment towards the innocent people here.
Jama’at also condemns all suppressive policies of Delhi Darbar which has turned the life of civilians into a hell and their life and dignity is always at stake. Hundreds of innocent people are languishing in the jails in and outside Jammu and Kashmir under false and frivolous charges and the judiciary has lost its lustre as it’s orders are not honored at all.
Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir appeal the people living on this globe to raise their voice against the state-sponsored terrorism going on in Kashmir and support the genuine cause of their right of self-determination. (PTK)
Unaccountable killing of civilians serious concern: Hakeem Yaseen
SRINAGAR: Chairman PDF and MLA Khansahib Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen criticizes the tall claims of the Government about zero tolerance against civilian casualties.
While talking to PTK he said that the unaccountable killing of civilians is a serious concern for all peace-loving people. He further expressed concern on the failure of the Government to curb human rights violations in the state.
He added that the people of the state, especially Kashmir valley, feel unsafe and insecure as their life and property is at stake.
Ridiculing the government for its utter failure to rein in violators of SOP, he said how long it will deceive people by announcing inquiry after enquiry for killings of innocents’ day in and day out.
He said barbarity unleashed upon the people of Kashmir has become an order of the day which is intolerable. “Enough is enough, this naked dance of death and mayhem should stop now,” Hakeem Yaseen maintained.
He said the present government has lost its authority to govern the state. He said Security personnel being a disciplined force should use other means the curb mass protests other than firing live bullets on crowds.
He further told PTK that the situation in the valley is same as it was in 90’s. “The government should take into consideration the ground realities and create an environment of trust”, he said. (PTK)
