Another Chechen refugee arrested in Sweden facing extradition to Russia
Stockholm: Swedish police arrested Lom-Ali Artsuyev during his
application for political asylum at the immigration office of the country. The police said he was" wanted by Interpol", reports a Chechen Democratic
website, IchkeriyaInfo.
It is to be recalled that earlier in 2009, Lom-Ali Artsuyev was detained by police in Dubai, also on a warrant from
Interpol, but the UAE authorities found no reason for his arrest, and he was released, with a right to leave the country.
"After long
ordeals in different countries, Lom-Ali Artsuyev came to Sweden, because he thought that in the country where democratic freedoms were declared top
priority, he would be able to get political asylum. However, in the process of application for political asylum, he was arrested", reports the
website.
Currently, Swedish authorities are considering a request from Russia to extradite Lom-Ali Artsuyev.
Lom-Ali Artsuyev served in
the Presidential Guard of Aslan Maskhadov, former President of independent Ichkeria (Chechnya). That is the main reason why Russia persecutes him.
