Boniyar Killing : Inquiry to record statements from today Srinagar: The magisterial inquiry ordered by Jammu and Kashmir government into the
killing of a youth in CISF firing at Uri on January 2 will begin recording the statements of witnesses from tomorrow, official sources said. The
enquiry officer will be available to record statement of witnesses till January 15 in the incident related to killing of Atlaf Ahmad Sood, a 12
standard student, in CISF firing at Boniyar in Uri town of Baramulla district, the sources said. The preliminary police investigations into the
incident has indicated that the CISF personnel had opened firing on the people, who were protesting against lack of electricity supply, without any
provocation. However, the CISF probe report, a copy of which was submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs, has said that its personnel has followed
the standard operating procedure while dealing with the mob on January 2. The sources said that the enquiry officer was to record the statement from
Friday but could not do so as the Uri town and adjoining areas had observed shutdown for four consecutive days in protest against the
killing.
Meanwhile, heavy snowfall for the last two days kept the people indoors in most areas. The enquiry officer has asked the people,
having any information regarding the firing incident, to visit the office of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla for recording their statements. (PTI)
