SSZ vs. SEZ

Abdul Hamid Mir

This is in reference to state Government’s proposal to constitute Special Security Zones under the purview of JK Police Bill 2013. While in other states Special Economic Zones (SEZ) are being designated by the govts. in order to boost up economic development, ours is still going to carve out Special Security Zones (SSZ) out of Conflict Zone. It speaks of the backward and pessimistic mental setup of our legislators. On the other hand, peace and normalcy slogans are also raised by the same politicians. It seems either they are confused or not comfortable with the prosperity in the state. Don't know how much time will it take our pessimistic legislators to replace the alphabet 'S' by 'E'. On the other hand slogans of normalcy are being raised through the same stake holders. Such decisions concerning public life and security, should be political in nature rather than administrative. Unfortunately, sometimes it becomes difficult to differentiate between a politician and an administrative/police or army officer. Because, days in and days out, top Police/Army officers issue statements in press which are political in taste and essence. They must mind their own business of managing the respective cadres. What is the fun of legislators and Ministers if they remain dependent on their subordinate officials in running the state affairs? Administration and Politics are two separate domains the two if merged together may result in chaos and confusion. Human beings are peace-loving by nature, why to create a hostile atmosphere for living? Let us hope SSZ’s to get replaced by SEZ’s in the larger interest of people.
