Jammu, February,16: The Department of Lifelong Learning in collaboration with Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG), University of Jammu today organized an extension lecture on “Use of Rural Technology” in the premises of GDC, Bishnah. Prof. Manoj Dhar, Coordinator, RuTAG Jammu chapter and former Director, School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu was the key resource person at the occasion.
While welcoming the guests, Dr. Kuldeep Raj Sharma, Principal, GDC Bishnah emphasized the role of extension activities like this to enhance the knowledge of people of peripheral areas of Jammu. Prof. Manoj Dhar, Cordinator, RuTAG Jammu chapter in his address mentioned that technology plays a very important role in solving the day to day problems of the people. A brief but informative powerpoint presentation was also made on various technologies which
have been developed by scientists from IITs which can be implemented in the rural areas.
RuTAG centres have been established in 7 IITs of the country. It was with the kind intervention of hon’ble Governor, J&K state that first ever RuTAG chapter was established in University of Jammu by Dr. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to Govt. of India. About 100 people from the adjoining villages of Bishnah along with their surpanches attended the programme.
A Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Rewa Khajuria, counsellor, EIAB, Department of Lifelong learning. Dr. Harish Dutt, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, JU, faculty and staff of GDC Bishnah were also present on the occasion.
The programme was applauded by the local people. During the interactive session, the villagers appreciated the opportunity
provided to them to speak about the problems in the agriculture sector. It was also felt that more such programmes be conducted involving clusters of villages.
