OIC launches Media Forum in Turkey

ISLAMABAD - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation will convene two meetings on its
media initiatives from 23 to 26 February 2013. The meetings will include discussion on devising mechanisms for the launching of the OIC Satellite
Channel, interaction with foreign media, especially in relation to the correction of the distorted image of Islam and Muslims through media, and
highlighting the role and potentialities of Africa to the world through media, says an email to Kashmir Watch here Wednesday.
The OIC member
states had earlier approved establishment of an OIC Media Forum, which will be based in Turkey and whose membership will include journalists and media
practitioners from among the Muslim world.
According to the resolution of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Djibouti last November,
the Forum aims at unifying journalists and enhancing their relationship as well as boosting communication and partnership with international media
organizations.
The resolution of the Foreign Ministers was based on an earlier resolution approved by the Islamic Conference of Information
Ministers held in Gabon in April 2012 that called upon the member states to foster media coordination between their media institutions and to
contribute to highlighting the important role played by the member states and the OIC in serving the Muslim Ummah through various activities and
programs in many areas through local and external media.
This resolution related to media activities comes in the context of the directions of
the OIC Secretary General, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, which aim to energize the information and communication sector, intensify media activities, and
highlight the OIC activities in the media in the Islamic world.
