OIC SG to sign coop accord with Australian FM on Feb 11

ISLAMABAD – Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General
of OIC (Organization of Islamic Conference) will sign an OIC-Australia cooperation accord during his visit to Canberra on Feb 11, 2012, paving way for
further cementing ties with the western world, says an OIC e-message to Pakistan Observer here Tuesday. The accord will be signed at the conclusion of
SG’s talks with Australian Foreign Minister Mr Kevin Rudd MP. Australia currently maintains an envoy level relations with Jeddah based OIC. Its
trade volume with OIC countries has reached $39 billion with prospect of growing further in near future.
Also on the engagement cards of OIC SG
are his visits to Sydney and Melbourne where he will have meetings with a number of official dignitaries besides his interaction with the chairman of
the Islamic Council of Australia. During his Australian interaction he will try to allay Islamophobia impression. Over half a million Muslims from 200
geographic backgrounds and cultures live in Australia today.
Prof Ihsanoglu is busy building cooperative bridges of OIC with western and
eastern countries. His recent visit to China was also part of this new initiative. Earlier he had a meeting with US President Barack Obama in
Washington DC brightening prospects of promoting ties.
