Thailand recognizes Palestine as independent State

ISLAMABAD - The Kingdom of Thailand has recognized Palestine as a
free, independent State within the 1967 borders, a significant development on the internaional horizon at a time when direct talks between Palestinian
authority and Israel are 'limpingly' afoot. Thailand is an observer member country of the 57-state Organization of Islamic Conference with
headquarters at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Diplomatic quarters have, expressed their view that the latest Thai move opens up further avenue for
widening the international support for Palestinian statehood cause.
Recently both the Palestinian and the Israeli interlocutors were face to
face in an initial round of bilateral talks in Jordan. But later on a little progress was reported from the talking round. Palestinians believe that
the Quartets on Palestine have failed to achieve any tangible outcome. Unesco has already recognized Palestine as a state.
United States the
key mover in the Middle East encourages both the Palestinians and Israelis for a direct negotiation to settle the Palestine statehood issue.
