Srinagar: All Party Group on Kashmir (APGK) in the European Parliament has invited Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, to attend the 5th Global Discourse on Kashmir (GDK 2011) at the European Parliament in Brussels from May 3 to May 4, 2011.
“The main purpose of the Global Discourse on Kashmir (GDK), since its first meeting in 2004, has been to encourage the informal dialogue process between the governments of India, Pakistan and the representatives of the people of Kashmir. The GDK is an ongoing process and is helping to develop innovative ways to assist and facilitate the ‘composite dialogue’ between the two nations which is unfortunately stalled,”, according to APGK chairman, James Elles.
A significant area of focus for the GDK 2011 will be the measures that would best facilitate the resumption of these talks furthermore, the GDK aims to further progress towards a resolution to the dispute that incorporates the aspirations of the Kashmiri people with a view to ensuring dignity for all parties in the conflict, Elles writes in the invitation to Mirwaiz.
Several other pro-freedom leaders, including chairman of the parallel Hurriyat faction, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chief, Mohammad Yasin Malik have also been invited to the occasion.
“Experts and influential actors from across the globe along with a number of members of the European parliament drawn, in particular, from the Afghanistan Indian and South-Asia delegations are being invited. Given your particular expertise and interest in the South-Asia region, your contribution to this event would be very welcome to improving the European understating and appreciation of Kashmir from an international perspective.” (PBI)
