Both Kashmir Council seats picked by PPP-AJK

ISLAMABAD: The PPP-AJK has won both the Kashmir Council seats in elections
held in Muzaffarabad today. Messrs Engineer Rafaqat Awan (Muzaffarabad) and Ali Zulkernain Khan (Bhimber) returned with bagging 18 and 17 votes
respectively. PML-N candidate Mr Naveed Sadiq could get 11 votes in the contest. Rafaqat Awan is son of the late Malik Munir Awan Advocate, one of the
founders of AJK-PPP in ZA Bhutto era. Mr Ali Zulkernain Khan is the son of ex-President AJK Raja Zulkernain Khan.
Under the Interim
Constitutional Act of 1974 the Kashmir Council is a constitutional body consisting of 12 members – six elected and six nominated from among the
parliament of Pakistan, having headquarters in Islamabad, with Prime Minister of Pakistan as its Chairman.
Both these newly elected members
would be appointed soon as Advisors to the Prime Minister of Pakistan with the status of minister of state. The outgoing member Kashmir Council Malik
Pervez Akhtar Awan (Sudhnutti) has congratulated both the new winners and wished them successes.
