GNS reports from Indian occupied Kashmir
Srinagar: Protests erupted at Parimpora area of Srinagar today after rumors of a local youth’s death in police custody started doing rounds on social networking sites here.
According to news agency GNS, some unknown persons spread rumors about death of Tawseef Ahmad who was arrested by police during a shootout at Zukura last week in which one militant Mugees Mir and a sub inspector Imran Tak were killed.
Soon after the death rumor went viral, locals including youth came out on roads at Parimpora and started protests. They also blocked vehicular movement on the Highway at Parimpora.
However, SSP Srinagar, Imtiyaz Ismail Parray told news agency GNS that Tawseef is safe and alive in police custody. “This is a mischief done by some trouble mongers. We have called his parents and they will meet him shortly at police station. We will take strict action against the rumor mongers,” he said. (GNS)
Encounter starts in Kupwara forests
Srinagar: A gun fight started between militants and Indian forces in Zurhama forests of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday afternoon.
A police officer told news agency GNS that a joint team of of Indian Army’s 23 Para commandos, 160 TA, SOG and CRPF Cordoned off the forest area in Gujarpati, Zurhama, following specific inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.
As the joint team intensified the searches, the hiding militants opened fire triggering an encounter. When last reports came in intermittent firing was going on. (GNS)
