Srinagar: The joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Friday called for a complete shutdown on Saturday October 21.
In a joint meeting of JRL held at Hyderpora on Thursday evening, it was decided to call shutdown and civil curfew on Saturday, October 21, asking traders, transporters and people to suspend their routine activities, saying that as an oppressed nation, we are left with no other option except to take these tough and painful decision.
The resistance leaders discussed various issues including incessant incidents of braid chopping and attempts to tamper with state subject laws.
The meeting while taking serious notice of continuous bloodshed, lawlessness and arbitrary measures inflicted on people by forces and puppet regime, asked for complete shutdown on Saturday against unending incidents of braid chopping.
Referring to Kupwara and Pahalgam incidents, the resistance leadership said that these incidents serve as eye-opener and added that assault on women is a ploy hatched by Indian forces, saying that well trained sleuths are involved in this devilish game.
Assault on modesty and dignity of women is intolerable, said resistance leadership and while lashing at authorities, said that their criminal silence and incompetence of police is encouraging these unscrupulous elements, hence go un noticed to carry their immoral activities.
Resistance leader strongly condemned the assault on women and said that these attacks are now becoming more alarming and dangerous as even male members of families are being attacked by these criminals and added that if not halted immediately it will take an ugly turn and may consume more human lives.
Police is very swift while arresting the wanted persons and even catch hold innocents Kashmiris from Jammu and outside states, resistance leaders said, saying that these braid choppers are carrying their devilish game under their nose, however police is maintaining their criminal silence over such inhuman activities carried by criminals, said JRL.
Reiterating their appeal, JRL asked people to handover these suspicious elements to trustworthy persons or local Masjid committees for onward action and said that they in no case should punish them. (PTK)
Braid chopping: Committee constituted to probe incidents in Ganderbal
SRINAGAR: Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari today convened meeting to take note of the braid chopping incidents in District Ganderbal.
He constituted District Level Committee under his Chairmanship with Additional Superintendent of Police Ganderbal, Assistant Commissioner Development, Chief Medical Officer Ganderbal, and District Social Welfare Officer Ganderbal as members to monitor the braid chopping cases and for tight vigil in the District.
Bukhari directed the officers to constitute Tehsil Level Committees comprising of Tehsildar concerned, SHO concerned and Tehsil Social Welfare Officer for post traumatic counseling of the victims.
He also directed the officers to frame village level committees comprising Patwari, VLW, Lambardar, Chowkidar, and Aanganwari workers for outreach to every village.
On the occasion Chief Medical Officer was asked to provide counsellors as and when required for post traumatic counselling of the victims.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal requested the general public not to pay attention towards rumour mongers. He also requested the people not to take law in their own hands.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development Ganderbal, District Social Welfare Officer, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, and all Tehsildars of the District. (PTK)
Mistaken as braid chopper man thrashed in Dal Lake
SRINAGAR : Police on Friday said that a man, who had come to offer Fajr prayers at Hazratbal shrine was “mistaken” as braid chopper and people tried to kill him by drowning him in Dal Lake.
A police statement said that a protest was held at Hazratbal over the alleged overnight braid chopping incident in the locality. The protestors comprising of men, women and children were sloganeering against the incidents of alleged braid chopping in the Valley in general and Dargah in particular.
The police personnel persuaded the protestors to disperse and after lot of hectic efforts the protestors were dispersed and after dispersal some persons on reaching near the banks of Dal Lake caught hold of one person (name withheld) who had came to visit the Hazratbal mosque for prayers and accused him of being a braid chopper.
“The person tried hard to satisfy the people around him that he is not any braid chopper but had merely come to the shrine for prayers,” the police said, adding, “But the (people) did not listen to him and accused him of being a braid chopper. The protestors turned violent and got frenzied and in the meantime people from Dargah area in large numbers reached to the spot and started beating him ruthlessly. The “violent mob” also tried to drown him in the waters of Dal Lake just to get his confession of being a braid chopper.”
They tried to lynch him but police party reached on spot and rescued the person from being lynched, police said.
“The police party in a very professional manner rescued the person from being lynched and saved a precious life. During the rescue violent mob pelted stones on the police party, however, police with the help of some respectable citizens was able to save the innocent person from being lynched,” the police said, adding a case under relevant provisions of law has been registered and investigation taken up. Clashes triggers shutdown in Hajin
SRINAGAR: Clashes erupted between youth and forces in Hajin area of Bandipora district of north Kashmir on Friday, triggering spontaneous shutdown in the town.
Reports said that youth pelted a patrolling party of Indian Army with stones early morning in Hajin. Later, police came to the spot and fired several tear smoke shells to disperse the youth, triggering brief clashes. Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in the town following the clashes. Mistaken as braid chopper, mentally challenged person thrashed in Sopore
Rescued by police, FIR registered
SRINAGAR: Police said that a mob had got hold of an alleged braid chopper in fruit Mandi area. Following which immediately a police party rushed to spot and found that a mob was beating one person ruthlessly.
Police said that the miscreants had also burnt hay and were trying to set the person ablaze. Some miscreants were trying to run a tractor over him.
Police added that the person was rescued and identified as Wasim Ahmad Tantray reportedly mentally challenged son of Ghulam Nabi resident of Shakwara presently residing at Puthkhah Nowpora Sopore.
“The said person was immediately rushed to SDH Sopore. Condition of injured is stated to be critical and has been referred to Srinagar. We have registered an FIR and the culprits involved have been identified”, police said. (PTK)
HCJK expressed serious concern over braid chopping incidents
SRINAGAR: HCJK convener and Muslim conference chairman Shabir Ahmad Dar, Mahzi Azadi president Muhammad Iqbal Mir, International forum for justice chairman Muhammad Ahsaan Untoo, Young mens league chairman Imtiyaz Ahmad Reshi and Tehreeqi Istiqamat chairman Gh Nabi War in their joint statement has expressed serious concerns over the incidents of braid chopping in every hook and corner of Kashmir.
They said such incidents are meant to create fear and confusion so that the atrocities committed by the forces of occupation are not under the scanner of international community. Leaders said these incidents seems to be the handy work of Agencies persons bur history stands testimony to the fact that such incidents have failed to produce the desired results for those braid choppers who are involved in such in indecent act and we are urging the international community to investigate the matter so that the justice is done and cur pits are brought to book.
HCJK leaders said attacks on our mothers , sisters and daughters is not acceptable to us aid that growing attacks on women and ugly acts of braid chopping are a direct attack on our dignity and no Kashmiri will tolerate these attacks anymore. Leaders said that Kashmiri mothers , sisters and daughters are under attack from some hidden enemy.
“We as a nation are living in an unrelenting horror and worry but so-called rulers , their police and other agencies remain absolutely naïve about it. So-called rulers are busy riding scooters and arranging music concerts and their forces and agencies are calling this menace as mere frenzy”, leaders said.
Leaders said that Hundreds of our sisters have been left shaken by unidentified assailants and police and forces who take no time to identify even masked protesters and take no time in finding the hidden faces behind every happening and are punctual while crushing the peaceful political activities till now claim no breakthrough.
“This ignorance is actually proving that entire matter is doubtful and situation extremely startling. Emphasizing on the need of unity to fight this menace”, statement reads. (PTK)
Congress will lodge strong protests against braid chopping, harassment in every district
SRINAGAR: The Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) is organizing public awareness programme in every district in the valley starting from 2Ist till26th October from District Kupwara to protest against the braid chopping of women & unnecessary harassment of the innocent people agitating against braid chopping.
Congress Leaders and workers led by J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President G.A. Mir will lodge strong protest in every district against the misrule and mismanagement on the part of State Govt and seek clarity from the Govt on braid choppings.
Commenting on Public Awareness Programme, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G.A. Mir stated that Congress Party being a constructive opposition in the State will continue to highlight the wrong and anti-people policies on the part of PDP BJP Govt and will make this unholy coalition accountable and answerable to people.
Stating that Congress will fight for the safety and security of people especially women whose modesty is at stake under Mehbooba Mufti led Govt. G.A. Mir said that this is highly deplorable that the conspiracies are being hatched to disturb peace and tranquility in the valley, but Congress will continue to fight against the Forces damaging peace to serve their vested interest, G.A. Mir said.
Adding that people are being victimized for no fault of their, Congress President lashed out at Coalition Govt over being unable to unravel the mystery behind unabated braid Choppings, as a result, people were feeling insecure.
He said Congress Party will support every initiative benefitting people, but at the sametime, the Party will not compromise on the safety, security and prestige of the people. (PTK)
Yasir Reshi is mentally disturbed: Shameema Firdous
SRINAGAR: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Habba Kadal and senior National Conference leader Shameema Firdous today ridiculed the statement of PDP MLC Yasir Reshi over braid chopping.
She told PTK that Yasir Reshi is mentally disturbed. “It indicates that government is failed in every sense. They can’t control situation, then how they can run a state”, she asks.
She told PTK the government has failed to provide safety to the women. She said that the Chief Minister has lost her control and turned state into a victim of state terrorism. “Women can’t move out of their houses. Men can’t go outside for prayers to mosques. It is a state terrorism”.
She said that Govt can’t understand the feeling of people. She said when such incidents may happen with their own loved ones, then only they can realize the agony. “These incidents are shameless. This is not an attack on women’s braid; this is an attack on her Honour”. (PTK)
