Kashmir: Clashes erupt during crackdown, residents allege highhandedness of Indian Army

SRINAGAR: Several people were injured among many sustained pellet injuries during a clash between Indian security forces and people, who were protesting against the highhandedness of army personnel in Heff Shermal village of Shopian district

Reports sai that forces laid a cordon around the villages of Heff, Shermal and Achan in the morning following inputs about the presence of a group of militants. Reports added during the house to house search operation, forces allegedly thrashed several residents and ransacked many house, including houses of militants.

“As soon as the searches were started, agitated villagers, including women and elderly, came of out of their homes and staged protests amid slogans. Forces thrash people which led to the clashes”, reports said.

Security forces resort to teargas shelling, pellets and stun grenades to disperse the protesting resident.
Forces moved to disperse the demonstration but the protesters started pelting stones at them, sparking clashes during which teargas, stun grenades and pellets were used to disperse them. The injured were admitted at different hospitals of Shopian district. Reports said that one of the youth suffered pellet injuries in his eyes following and he was referred for specialised treatment to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital.

Latter the operation was called off.

According to sources, the families of around four to five militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen live in these villages.

Hurriyat condemns targeting families of militants, ‘90’s like crackdown

Hurriyat Conference on Wednesday condemned ‘90’s like crackdown on civilians in Oaky Kulgam and said that resorting to military might, assault & humiliating civilians, is highly shameful act.

Hurriyat while referring to village Haf Shirmal, said that targeting families of militants is highly condemnable. The vast area in district Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Islamabad has been virtually handed over to Indian army, said Hurriyat and civil administration is nowhere noticed on ground.

“It is a collective punishment to innocent civilians, while referring to crackdown conducted by Indian forces. It is unjustified and violation of human rights”, said Hurriyat.

Hurriyat said that it is quite injustice & unethical to involve families of militants and said that on one hand police says that families should not be involved in these situations and while as they are doing otherwise and unnecessarily targeting families of militants.

Blaming police and authorities for playing deceit, Hurriyat said that disciplined forces do never involve in such dirty games.

Terming crackdown in vast areas and against innocent people an act of state   terrorism, Hurriyat said that resorting to military might, assault & humiliating civilians is highly shameful and an act of state sponsored vandalism.

Hurriyat Conference in its appeal to human rights organizations asked to use their influence and save life and dignity of common civilians in state. (PTK)
