Chhattisgarh: A Kashmiri youth who had been arrested on sedition charge for allegedly posting anti-India content on his Facebook account was presented before the court in Chattisgarh, India on Tuesday.
Tauseef Ahmad Bhat hailing from Apple Town Sopore of North Kashmir worked with a mobile company in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district, was arrested by the police on 5 August after a group of locals complained to police he has shared anti-India content on his personal face book account. Drug police has booked him under section 124 (a) of IPC (sedition).
When contacted, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, the father of the incarcerated youth told Kashmir based news agency CNS over phone from Chattisgarh that though police presented his son before the local court here, but they didn’t submit charge sheet as a result they were unable to move bail in the court of law. “The police officials informed us that the file has been sent to the Secretariat and charge sheet will be submitted only after they get sanction from the corridors of power here,” he said adding that his son has been lodged in Sub-Jail Drug.
The counsel for the accused youth Raj Kumar Tiwari said that they couldn’t move the bail application in absence of the charge sheet that police is supposed to file before the court of law. “We are in touch with police and hopefully they will submit it later or sooner,” he said.
It is worth to mention here that sedition law was brought into the Indian penal code in 1870 by British and its object was to silence the Indian voice then. (CNS)
